Are you excited for the release of the Bollywood flick, Padmavati or the much-anticipated Pakistani movie, Verna? Well, prepare yourself for some disappointment. Because both of these movies have high possibilities of not making it to the cinema screens on their set release dates. Amazed to know this? Aren’t you aware of the controversial web they are caught up against? If not, then read on to find out!
Violent Strikes thrown for Padmavati
Lately Padmavati which is directed by sanjay leela bhansali ; a epic historical saga, , has been making to the headlines for all the wrong reasons. It is being opposed by a very vocal and often violent minority led by Shri RajputKarni Sena & Bharatiya Janata party. The reason? By torching sets and burning banners of the director and lead actress, Deepika Padukone, the fanatics claim to be defending the honor of Rani Padmavati . They believe that by showing a romantic angle between rani Padmavati and the evil Turk emperor Alauddin Khilji(muslim ruler) , the heritage of Rajput women is being demeaned. The makers of the film have refuted these rumors repeatedly, but the protesters haven’t paid any heed. And guess what? It is not even known for sure if the Rajput queen existed in real life or is just fictional. But many Indian cinemas have been burnt down and the movie is being put on hold,Senseless violence this is! Padmavati film release has been delayed.
Censor Board Issues for ‘Verna’
Almost everyone was waiting for the Mahira Khan’s Verna to hit the theaters, when suddenly the Censor Board decided to restrict the release of the film due to its content. The Movie has been directed by Shoaib Mansoor, who rose to fame after the success of ‘Khuda ke Liye”. Apparently, some conservative mullahs and few others believe that the topic of rape should not be talked about. Isn’t this hypocrisy? Why can’t the women centric hideous realities of our society be highlighted through a work of art? Our government is democratic right? So why has a movie, which is made on the plight of women, not been granted a clearance certificate by the censor board? Media is always considered responsible for provoking adultery in the society. Isn’t it? But when the same industry takes a step to spread awareness among the common man, all the fuss happens. All in all, there is no logical reason to support this ban. How unfortunate!
With such drama revolving around the movies in their respective home countries; it appears that both Pakistan and India suffer from the same conservative mentality,Wether it is Padmavati or Verna. And let me tell you something, this is not something to be proud of! These “gairatmand” people with their so-called honor are the ones who live in their own limited circle. Their aim is to tease others, who don’t fit in their circle, by every mean, mentally and even physically. However, one thing is certain. You may find these sick-minded people everywhere, India or Pakistan.
Movies and dramas are all about entertaining audience. People need to understand this! Spreading heat and promoting violence will not help anyone. If you have “personal” issues with a script; it is suggested to ignore and watch some other film. At least, don’t discourag actors who have worked really hard to produce something for you. What are your thoughts on it?
